Log Book for March 28, 2006
Commander's Check-In
Dr. Jan Osburg Reporting

Crew Physical Status: Everyone is doing great, with only a few minor health items (see HSO report).

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: Main focus of the day was an exploration EVA to the northern end of Copernicus Highway. At the hab, upgrade efforts and GreenHab water quality research were continued, power meter components were installed in the GreenHab, and the observatory webcams were brought back on line.

EVA: EVA06 took us north along Copernicus Highway to the old northernmost waypoint at Muddy River (WPT 237), and a few klicks beyond to the new "northernmost" waypoint at Sun Rock. We saw amazing rock formations on the way, lots of varied terrain, and a herd of Martian cattle. Every EVA member had an APRS beacon, and real-time positioning data was transmitted to the Internet. After almost five hours, we came back to the hab just in time to beat the rain.

Plans for Tomorrow: Prepare for CMT visit, continue hab upgrades, maybe a short EVA (weather permitting).

Report Transmission Schedule:
  • Today's engineering report will be transmitted via the web interface within the hour.
  • The other reports (HSO, SCI, UPG, JNL, EVA) will be transmitted between 2000h and 2030h.
  • The CDR report will be transmitted after 2200h.
Miscellaneous: It has started to rain, and more rain is predicted for the night and tomorrow.

Support Requested: None - Don just brought out a full water tank on the trailer.

More to follow.
