Science Report
Jenny Rome Reporting
Astronomy (Jenny): Unfortunately, we were unable to photograph last night's eclipse of RS CVn due to excessive cloud cover. It appears that we will not be able to make observations tonight either because of the weather.
Biology (Meryl): The plants in the GreenHAB are fine except that the lettuce plants have white flies again and now have aphids as well.
Communication and Navigation (Jan): Today's EVA was again equipped with an APRS beacon which provided near-real-time locations throughout the EVA. However, since we lost our balloons due to high winds today, we did not use a voice repeater. The repeater radio which was on the balloon at the time the balloon damage occurred was damaged and will likely not be available for the rest of the mission.
Human Factors (Jan): The participants keep taking MASCOT and MOODY tests. It will be interesting to note how the events of the past two days will affect everyone's results...
Radiation (Jason): The data collected on yesterday's EVA was processed in an acceptable format for Mission Support to create the necessary contour plots of the radiation levels along the route. The data was sent to Mission Support today.
The EVA today yielded plenty of data on another phase of the radiation research: shielding. Using sand bags, dirt from a selected site was collected and used to build a structure to enclose the Gamma Scout. The data has yet to be analyzed in detail though a preliminary assessment of the data reveals that the shielding may have had an observable effect, even though the contrary was hypothesized a few days ago. Further analysis will be included in tomorrows report.
