Commander's Check-In
Veronica A. Zabala-Aliberto Reporting
EVA: We had our first in SIM EVA today! F.L.A.M.E. crewmembers received full suit training, then we all went on a pedestrian EVA north of MDRS in order for the CDR to give a brief overview of the regional geology.
Crew Physical Status: Everyone is healthy, happy and well rested. We are not experiences any bouts of boredom as we all have been busy with reports and the cleaning of the hab.
Brief Narrative of Today's Results: We had our morning briefing in which we discussed our martian sleeping schedules, fire safety, emergency egress from the hab, ATV training that will take place today and tomorrow, daily tasks and determining how everyone is coping with the hab and the martian weather. Then today we had our first EVA to collect some soil samples and to discuss the local geology near the MDRS. Menkes thoroughly enjoyed himself throughout the EVA. The other members of the F.L.A.M.E. crew collected rock and soil samples to carry out further investigations within the MDRS Science Laboratory. We determined that the younger martian astronauts would not be able to fit into the regular MDRS suits so they fashioned the prototype martian suit and helmets. The CDR checked all the equipment in the MDRS Science Laboratory. Menkes ran around all day to ensure that our generator was working within normal parameters, Gino ensured that no one was running out of the airlock until they were fully depressurized and Madeline helped with the day’s meals. Angelina helped with the kitchen chores and the cleaning of the EVA equipments and suits. Shortly afterwards we heard a knock on the airlock and were so happy to see the rest of our crew home at last! The rest of the evening we will be busy with dinner, reports and prepping for tomorrow’s activities.
Plans for Tomorrow: Tomorrow we will be participating in EVAs to get as much science done as possible. Todd will be busy familiarizing himself with the hab’s systems and actively start his role as Chief Health and Safety Officer (HSO) and that of Assistant Engineer. Stacy will work on her exopaleontological field investigations to which Angelina will be assisting at the same time as she collects soil samples for her project. Madeline will be assisting the CDR with her concretion study and Gino will be floating around to ensure that all crew members are following protocols within the hab as well as in the field.
