Health, Safety, & Human Factors Report
William Fung-Schwarz Reporting
Emergency Management Response: At 0754, we had a small electrical fire this morning. The immediate cause appears to have been a short in a power bar on the upstairs computer table. Laurel and William activated the emergency response protocol, simultaneously calling out "fire" and turning off the main power to the Habitat. The fire was extinguished with minimal effort (the upper level fire extinguisher need recharging). Ben and Peter were already doing work outside. Guido, Laurel, Steven, and William exited the Habitat. The team gathered at the rally point and was debriefed. No injuries were experienced by any member of the crew. Inspection and documentation of the emergency scene was followed by major clean-up efforts. Don Foutz, who was in the area at the time, made a brief stop into the Habitat to inspect the damage (which was localized to a small area above the desk). The crew had previously done two fire drills and responded well to this actual emergency.
Crewmember & Individual Health: Physically, the crew is fine today. The sun is shining on a day we were informed would be cold and rainy. Some crewmembers began packing for home today.
Team Wellness: Fatigue is apparent in the prime crew. Issues related to changed travel plans home have added undue stress to the group.
Safety Inspection: We will complete an end-of-mission "walk-through" tomorrow and look for safety hazards (during Habitat cleaning). Excess cardboard has been removed from the Habitat and placed on the trailer in Main Engineering for removal.
Human Factors Research: The final day of surveys is tomorrow. There will be two more session of Thorns ‘n' Roses. The crew has already been debriefed related to the human factors study.
Plans for Tomorrow:
- Assist final cleaning and inventory of Hab
- Plan 2-3 hours of recreation
