Peter Kokh Reporting
I think we all needed a rest today, but as the weather report is good for the next few days then worsening, we decided to "make hay" while the sun shines.
Leslie continued to set up flow meters and other apparatus to study of how well the GreenHab processes gray water. She spent some time analyzing the water samples she had collected the other day. One discouraging finding is that the water is little better after treatment than before indicating to her that the count of good bacteria is not high enough.
Peter continued work on the tunnel project reaching the half way mark, with all the remaining sections ready to be put up. All that needs to be done is dig holes for the legs of the remaining sections. It is encouraging to reach the point where we are confident this project will be finished on our watch.
William did some trail maintenance between the Hab and the Observatory. He also realigned the path to engineering, removing the ATV garage (parking area) which the MDRS Engineering Team did not favor. William and Peter looked at the radio observatory apparatus. It badly needs realigning and we have proposed to the RST team that we could do that, time and good weather allowing.
Tonight we celebrate our first full week on analog Luna by departing from our vegetarian fare, but not from our simulated early space frontier diet. Talapia is a good-tasting fish that thrives in greenhouse-based water recycling systems, which we are pretending to have. Fish is likely to be the first animal protein available on the lunar and Martian frontiers.
Beautiful weather continues and it was sunny and 65° today. It will get increasingly more cloudy and cooler as the week goes on, and by midweek, wetter. Again, we are making hay while the sun shines.
As we have been too busy with our reports after supper to do any of the three pedestrian nighttime EVAs we had planned, tomorrow we may get them sent off in mid-afternoon, so that some of us can start on the nighttime EVA program. We will be within sight of the Hab at all times, and probably not on the ATVs.
