Engineering Report
Steven Winikoff Reporting
Generator/Electricity:
Casper: not used
Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2887.6 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 62 Hz
Oil Level: full
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
Water Drained: no
Notes/Comments: Yes, that 62 Hz (before correction) is intentional, not just an inadvertent replay of yesterday.
Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running?
20:19 - 23.7 - 06 - 19 - off
20:37 - 26.2 - 06 - 19 - on
23:19 - 27.6 - 04 - 21 - on
23:26 - 25.3 - 03 - 21 - off
07:49 - 23.5 - 07 - 17 - off
08:12 - 26.1 - 11 - 17 - on
11:49 - 27.6 - 08 - 21 - on
12:21 - 24.5 - 07 - 19 - off
Fuel Status (as of 17:00):
Diesel: Approximate Reading - full
Notes/Comments: We had a visit from the Diesel Resupply Elves today. Also, Don's improved workaround for catching the drip didn't work -- it depends on leaving a plastic lid under the drip to use as a ramp, but the vibrations keep moving it out of the way. I reverted to the previous method this morning out of necessity, although in principle we could use Don's method if we could find a long, thin sheet of metal (say about 6" wide or so). I looked but couldn't find anything, nor could I find a tool to cut a larger sheet down to size.
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading - 79% (780 gallons = 2952.6 L)
Notes/Comments: The gauge moved today. The apparent level (from the temperature/echoes) still feels like ~30%, however. I'd much rather believe the gauge, of course.
Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 1 gallon = 3.8 L
Quantity Remaining: 34 gallons = 128.7 L
Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 0 quarts
ATV Quantity: 13.5 quarts
Blue Quantity: 14.5 quarts
Water Status:
Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 490 gallons = 1854.8 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 27 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 7383.3 gallons = 27948.7 L
Water Consumed: 71 gallons = 268.8 L
Grey Water Used: 39 gallons = 147.6 L
Flushes: 14
Showers: 1
Sponge Baths: 0
Tonight's meter readings:
Out to Toilet: 1192.7 (+39 since yesterday)
In to GreenHab: 1968.6 (+91.6 since yesterday)
Today Leslie and I tested the "in to GreenHab" meter, by disconnecting the line and pumping directly from the settling tank into a bucket of known capacity. The results were variable -- we repeated the test three times and got three different results. The only real conclusion we can draw is that this meter is clearly inaccurate, and not even consistently so. Leslie hypothesized that the cause may be that there's just too little flow, in which case it may be necessary to replace the settling tank pump by one with different parameters; she's still thinking about that, but of course she also plans to replace all the flow meters anyway.
GreenHab:
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: The aphids which were attacking the beets appear to have abated. We'll be performing another intensive treatment for white fly tomorrow.
Transportation:
Kawasaki ATV 1: Used - no
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV 2: Used - yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0.5 gallon = 1.9 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV 3: Used - yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0.5 gallon = 1.9 L
Tire Status: good
HVAC: Nothing further to report.
Mars Surface Suits: Now that we've finally used more than one suit, we now see what Crew 44 was talking about: all have at least minor holes in the crotch area, while 2, 3 and 5 have large holes. Suit 2 in particular is almost unusable. We'll take some photographs and upload them tomorrow to show exactly what the situation is.
Appliances: I haven't had time to look at the bread maker, but thanks to Paul and Danielle (via Bugzilla :-) for details on what we need to do.
Data Logger: Nothing further to report.
Upgrade Work: Nothing further to report.
Notes/Comments: Nothing further to report.
