Health, Safety, & Human Factors Report
William Fung-Schwarz Reporting
Crewmember & Individual Health: The Health & Safety Officer requested the 2.5 crewmembers take 2.5-3.5 personal "rest" hours this afternoon. Today felt more like a Saturday for the crew…a skipped morning meeting, crewmembers working independently on projects, some cartoons, and catching up on some e-mail after four long days of hard work.
Team Wellness: Crewmembers of teams in remote location often times need time "away" from one another…eventhough this "away" may be literally a few feet away in the private stateroom or "outside" on the deck of a ship. Individual preference and need for time "away" from the group varies greatly in teams. One inauspicious way for crewmembers to communicate the need for time away from the group is to wear a set of headphones or music ear bubs…and stuff the unplugged end down into a pocket…or to an mp3 player. Some crews have used mandatory days off or a "don't bother me" cap. Everyone seems to be adjusting well to the needs and work styles of the group.
Safety Inspection: Please see the vlog today for a demonstration of the emergency egress hoods. The pathway to the Musk Observatory is suffering the effects of runoff and slight erosion…note to self: possibly a little trail maintenance would be in order to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
Daily Evening Group Sharing Activity:
(to protect crewmember privacy, responses have been grouped and only composite themes are reported):
- Thorns: (Hassles/Challenges/Threats): "no thorns", felt fatigued today, used last of fresh veggies today, finished my planned work activities today
- Roses: (Uplifts/Salutogenic Factors): beautiful weather today, "felt like a Moonbase today", got my work done today, enjoyed taking digital photos of the flags, Peter…he is an inspiration to us all, webcams are operational today, got the webDAV going!
Plans for Tomorrow:
- Continue to casually observe Engineer's duty to prepare for his "vacation" day
later in the crew rotation
- Flim one vlog in the morning
- Assist with activation of Habitat mainframe/server (name "Wanda" in honor of
my mother)
Plan for Tomorrow:
- Support Commander and the Executive Officer in crewmember orientation and
continued training.
- Support ATV and Moon Analogue Suit training and familiarization.
- Support collection of media (photography/videography)
- Carry out Bi-weekly Habitat safety inspection
