Log Book for March 2, 2006
Engineering Report
Steven Winikoff Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used

Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2880.6 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 62 Hz
Oil Level: full
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
Water Drained: no

Notes/Comments: Wendy was running a little fast today, but held steady at 60 Hz after correction. Note that I ran the generator in the afternoon while filling the outside water tank, to be sure not to deplete either of the starting batteries -- was that a wise precaution or just paranoia on my part?

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running?

19:49 - 23.3 - 12 - 18 - off
20:02 - 25.9 - 06 - 18 - on
00:36 - 27.6 - 04 - 21 - on
00:43 - 25.3 - 04 - 21 - off
07:31 - 23.8 - 11 - 17 - off
07:57 - 26.3 - 16 - 17 - on
11:00 - 27.6 - 08 - 19 - on
11:21 - 24.5 - 08 - 19 - off
14:50 - 24.0 - 06 - 19 - off
15:20 - 26.4 - 06 - 19 - on
16:49 - 24.6 - 07 - 19 - off

Fuel Status (as of 16:40):

Diesel: Approximate Reading - 1/4
Notes/Comments: Still no apparent change.

Propane Tank: Approximate Reading - 80% (800 gallons = 3028.3 L)
Notes/Comments: I tried tapping on the side of the tank to listen for echoes, as well as feeling the side of the tank to try to locate a temperature different. Both methods seem to indicate that the tank is only about 30% full(!), but the gauge is still steady at 80%.

Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 0 gallons = 0 L
Quantity Remaining: 35 gallons = 132.5 L
Notes/Comments: No EVAs today.

Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 0 quarts
ATV Quantity: 13.5 quarts
PEV Quantity: 14.5 quarts

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 540 gallons = 2044.1 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 27 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 7312.3 gallons = 27680.0 L
Water Consumed: 61 gallons = 230.9 L
Grey Water Used: 13.9 gallons = 52.6 L
Flushes: 7
Showers: 0
Sponge Baths: 0

Tonight's Meter Readings:
Out to toilet: 1153.7 (+13.9 since yesterday)
In to GreenHab: 1877.0 (+179.4 since yesterday)

Leslie agrees that the in to GreenHab meter is wrong, probably due to a buildup of material in the hose since we don't have a filter inline. She also agrees that the only way to prove it is to disconnect the hose and fill a container of known volume -- but I didn't have time to do that today, and she plans to replace the flow meters anyway by ones that can be monitored by the OneMeter.

GreenHab:

Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: The white fly situation is improved but not yet completely under control.

Transportation:

Kawasaki ATV 1: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 2: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 3: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Notes/Comments: No EVAs today.

HVAC: Nothing further to report.

Mars Surface Suits: No EVAs today.

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: All webcams are back online, after much fighting with Windows and much help from Ben Huset.

Appliances: The bread maker is back to not kneading anymore. I can't seem to find the wing nut that Crew 44 reported in their fix.

Data Logger: Nothing further to report.

Upgrade Work: Nothing further to report.

Notes/Comments: I'm not sure what to call it, but the skirting on the outside of the Hab just at deck level is becoming detached just to the left of the engineering airlock. Photos are uploaded. Suggestions for how best to repair this would be welcome.
