Sims Lite Report
Peter Kokh Reporting

We introduced "Sim Lite" today. Our rules and assumptions differ from those used by Crews 41 & 42 earlier this year. They had assumed a slightly pressurized tunnel to the warehouse, utility, and maintenance areas. That may make sense on Mars. We are assuming that on the Moon, all areas, supplies, equipment and facilities that must be visited on a regular or daily basis, will be housed under a canopy that holds a 2-meter blanket of shielding. Unlike areas on the naked surface exposed to micrometeorites, cosmic rays, and solar flares, this are will be "lee" or barrier-protected vacuum, but vacuum nonetheless. Workers in this area will be able to wear lighter weight, more comfortable, less tiring pressure suits, and this should boost productivity.

To simulate the lighter suits, we purchased (2)XL, (2)L, (2)M, 1 (S) white lightweight one piece TyvekTM suits that cover all the body except hands, feet, and the face. We had found a deal on Russian surplus gas masks on ebay and tried these in lieu of helmets. They were too uncomfortable to wear. Next we tried lightweight masks like welders' masks, only with a clear shield. That proved much better.

Peter and Laurel tried on the new suits and inaugurated them on trips to the engineering area. Guido took pictures.
