Log Book for March 1, 2006
Engineering Report
Steven Winikoff & Ben Huset Reporting
Generator/Electricity:
Casper: not used
Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2871.1 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: full
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
Water Drained: yes
Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running?
00:00 - 27.4 - 04 - 18 - on
00:08 - 24.6 - 04 - 18 - off
07:42 - 23.3 - 15 - 17 - off
07:58 - 26.1 - 09 - 17 - on
12:34 - 27.5 - 10 - 19 - on
12:50 - 24.3 - 10 - 19 - off
Notes/Comments: I'm about to head out to start Wendy to charge up for the night, but I figured you'd appreciate it if I sent this report first instead of keeping you waiting while I go do that.
Fuel Status (as of 17:30):
Diesel: Approximate Reading - 1/4
Notes/Comments: No apparent change in four days.
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading - 80% (800 gallons = 3028.3 L)
Notes/Comments: We're definitely using propane; the water heater, furnace, oven and stove have all been used every day -- but the gauge hasn't budged, even when I tap it as hard as I can short of breaking it.
Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 0 gallons = 0 L
Quantity Remaining: 35 gallons = 132.5 L
Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 0 quarts
ATV Quantity: 13.5 quarts
PEV Quantity: 14.5 quarts
Water Status:
Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 420 gallons = 1589.9 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 66 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 7251.3 gallons = 27449.1 L
Water Consumed: 70.3 gallons = 266.1 L
Grey Water Used: 31 gallons = 117.3 L
Flushes: 12
Showers: 1
Sponge Baths: 0
Tonight's Meter Readings:
Out to toilet: 1139.8 (+31.0 since yesterday)
In to GreenHab: 1697.6 (+145.1 since yesterday)
I suspect that Paul and Artemis are both right that the "in to GreenHab" meter is reading high -- but with Leslie down with an ear infection, I don't know how to prove that. Does anyone know the rated flow in gallons/minute of the settling tank pump?
GreenHab:
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: The white fly infestation has been treated with soap and water, and we're starting to give more water than we had been (the advantage of having the crops watered by someone who knows what she's doing. Laurel estimates that we'll be able to harvest some radishes before we leave here.
Transportation:
Blue: Blue has breathed his last, and has been permanently retired. This will be the last (intentional) report on the subject.
Kawasaki ATV 1: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV 2: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV 3: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Notes/Comments: No EVAs today.
HVAC: Nothing further to report.
Mars Surface Suits: No EVAs today.
Computers/Networking Infrastructure: As noted by tonight's CapCom, we do indeed have a problem with the web cams. I'm working on fixing that ASAP. My comments about Windows are probably not printable for public consumption.
Appliances: Nothing further to report.
Data Logger: Nothing further to report.
Upgrade Work: Nothing further to report.
Notes/Comments: Our thanks to Don for delivering a lovely tank full of potable water, just when we needed it most. He also delivered the newly emptied garbage cans -- but minus the wooden lids we were using. We have makeshift lids for two of the three cans, but I'll have to scrounge around for something to cover the third one if we need to use it before Don comes back.
On a similar note, the collection bucket we're using for the diesel fuel leaking from Wendy is nearly full, and probably will be full tomorrow. There's a similar (empty) bucket on the trailer, but we don't have a lid for it.
