Project MAST Report
Hugh S. Gregory Reporting

Today started off nice enough for an overcast day here at MDRS. Today Project MAST was requested by the ETC to accompany Don Foutz, local road conditions expert on an inspection of the Gully Hill portion of Sagan Street.

Don and I exited south to Hwy 24 in his personal truck and then with my GPS assisted navigating, followed the denoted 4WD (four wheel drive) tracks up Old Copernicus and across Sagan Street West to the top of the Gully portion of Sagan Street. I did capture some good GPS track data for position of Old Copernicus Highway up to where it joins the already recorded New Copernicus Highway (Dr Jan Osberg's Crew 37 captured that data), and I will update the MDRS road map upon my return to Canada.

Don and I dismounted and proceeded to by foot to thoroughly inspect the parts of Sagan Street Hill that Crew 42's Hungarian Geographer Henrik had reported as unsafe. What we saw completely concurred with RST Geologist Dr. Penny Boston's findings and Mr Foutz looked at me and said "Until this can be fixed, Sagan Street Hill is closed to all MDRS traffic."

We hiked back up to his truck and reversed our course back the way we came and returned to MDRS. If the weather improves tomorrow or Thursday, I will to make another attempt to photo document the complete length of Cactus Road for Project MAST, hopefully in better lighting conditions that the fading light that stopped me Monday night.

Good night to all from analogue Selene at MDRS.
