Log Book for February 26, 2006
Engineering Report
Steven Winikoff Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used

Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2844.6 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: full
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
Water Drained: no

Notes/Comments: Danielle told me that Wendy started normally this morning. It also restarted perfectly when we stopped and restarted it for practice, and again when it was needed this evening. However, this evening there was an unexpected fluctuation in the frequency: initially it came on at 60 Hz, then climbed to 61. I adjusted it down to 60. It held steady for a moment or two, then dropped to 57 Hz, after which I adjusted it back to 60. This happened again, then it finally seemed to stabilize at 60. Meanwhile the evening oil level was slightly above full (it had been refilled before I arrived), and the oil pressure initially read 48 PSI immediately after starting. This decreased gradually to 30 PSI before I left the area.

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:

19:30 - 25.6 - 09 - 18 - on
00:10 - 27.5 - 07 - 21 - on
00:15 - 24.9 - 07 - 21 - off
07:55 - 23.5 - 06 - 15 - off
08:05 - 25.7 - 06 - 15 - on
12:05 - 27.6 - 14 - 19 - on
12:13 - 24.7 - 06 - 19 - off

18:30 - 26.1 - 11 - 18 - on

Fuel Status (as of 18:15):

Diesel: Approximate Reading: 1/4

Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 80% (800 gallons = 3028.3 L)

Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 0 gallons = 0 L
Quantity Remaining: 36 gallons = 136.3 L

Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 0 quarts
ATV Quantity: 13.5 quarts
Blue Quantity: 14.5 quarts

Notes/Comments: Don tells me that Wendy prefers synthetic oil. I didn't know that when we stopped to resupply in SLC, so we still have none on site.

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 460 gallons = 1741.3 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 15 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 7052.4 gallons = 26696.2 L
Water Consumed: 61.6 gallons = 233.2 L
Grey Water Used: 47.2 gallons = 178.7 L
Flushes: 17
Showers: 0
Sponge Baths: 0
Notes/Comments: This flush count dates back to 18:00 yesterday (Feb. 25th).

GreenHab:

Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: I have a black thumb, so I can't assess this personally. Our XO is a gardener, and she tells me that about half the beets are dead (apparently from underwatering) but that everything else looks good.
Notes/Comments: There are two water meters in the GreenHab, but the Crew 44 engineers weren't sure what the second one is for. The one they pointed out as the grey water meter read 1027.6 gallons and was holding steady at that value; the other (the TST meter?) read 1228.5 gallons and was increasing quickly while I watched. All water meter readings were taken at approximately 18:30.

Transportation:

Blue: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status:

Kawasaki ATV 1: Used - no
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 2: Used - no
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 3: Used - no
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Notes/Comments: Is there any news of Blue's condition: Do we know yet if the damage is reasonably reparable?

HVAC: Nothing further to report.

Mars Surface Suits: Not used today.

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Nothing further to report.

Appliances: Nothing further to report.

Data Logger: Nothing further to report.

Upgrade Work: Nothing further to report.

Notes/Comments: I'd like to thank Crew 44 for the excellent work they did, and for the time and care they devoted to the handoff briefing. Any mistakes you see here are mine, not theirs.
