EVA-8 Report

Destination GPS: UTM NAD27 - 517 634 4250 920

EVA Goals: The goal of this EVA was to look at the stratigraphy of some outcrops south of the Hab. The layout of the area was also documented using the HERMES protocol.

Results: Three major lithologies were identified and channel deposits were noted.

Lessons Learned: Duct tape should be brought on all EVAs. A Jacobs staff was broken at the beginning of the EVA and had to be used as is for the next of the EVA.

Destination Name: Lith Canyon

Destination GPS: UTM NAD27, CONUS 0518815 4256523

EVA Goals: This was an EVA for the crew biologist John to take samples from saline environments in the Lith Canyon area.

Results: Seven samples were collected for the Halophile diversity study. These samples will be plated upon return to the hab.


Special Notes: We escorted the Spanish film crew to the area. ATV1 had difficultly starting initially, required a pull start. It functioned fine for the duration of the EVA.

Lessons Learned: Ensure the helmets are clean as the return into the setting sun on the ATVs, it was difficult at times to see ahead.
