Log Book for February 16, 2006
Engineering Report
Danielle Cormier, Kevin Sandell & Lealem Mulugeta Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used

Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2177.0 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: 3/8
Oil Pressure: 32 PSI
Water Drained: no

Notes/Comments: The bucket with the diesel from the leak was emptied out into the waste drum. It's a good thing we didn't try to use that diesel for Wendy, there was 1/2 inch of ice at the bottom of the bucket.

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time Voltage (Temp Comp) Load Temp Generator Running?

2330 - 27.5 - 19 - 15 - Off
0730 - 22.1 - 17 - 09 - On
1350 - 27.4 - 23 - 15 - Off
1800 - 22.9 - 09 - 14 - On

Notes/Comments: This morning the batteries were at 22.1 V and the Hab still had power. Yesterday we lost power at 22.3 V. The inverter cut-off doesn't seem to always come at the same voltage.

Note from Engineering: It is tripped as a combination of voltage (non temp-comped) and time spent at that voltage, so high loads will cause it to LBCO (Low Battery Cut Off) and them the voltage will immediately jump a bit, but not enough to cause it to start again. It is best to not let it below 22.5 volts to prevent this.

Fuel Status (as of 18:55):

Diesel: Approximate Reading - 3/8

Propane Tank: Approximate Reading - 91% (910 gallons = 3444.7 L)

Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 0 gallons = 0 L
Quantity Remaining: 18 gallons = 68.1 L

Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 1 quart
ATV Quantity: 6 quarts
Blue Quantity: 0 quarts

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 500 gallons = 1892.7 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 40 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 6461.5 gallons = 24459.4 L
Water Consumed: 72.8 gallons = 275.6 L
Grey Water Used: 17.4 gallons = 65.9 L
Flushes: 7
Showers: 3
Sponge Baths: 0

Notes/Comments: In the middle of the night the inside water pump was found running even though no faucets were open. The inside water tank had run dry, making the inside pump run continuously. We partially refilled the inside water tank and ran the kitchen faucet for about a minute to fix the problem. In the future, we'll make sure we have enough water left in the inside tank to last the night before going to bed. Water had frozen in the line from the water tank on the trailer and the outside potable water tank. The line was laid out in the sun to thaw out. The line thawed around midday and we proceeded to a full refill of the outside potable water tank.

Notes from Engineering: This line should stay dry, and the pump should be drained (pumped dry) during freezing conditions. We'll need to change the docs to reflect this. The puddle area was still fairly dry today.
