Log Book for February 13, 2006
Engineering Report
Danielle Cormier, Kevin Sandell & Lealem Mulugeta Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used

Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2149.8 hrs
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: 5/8
Oil Pressure: 40 PSI
Water Drained: no
Notes/Comments: Re-tightened the bolts securing Wendy's day tank to the base of the generator assembly. Don decided that the diesel from the leak on Wendy was toodirty too use. It will be disposed of.

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running?

2050 - 24.3 - 09 - 18 - Off
0730 - 25.3 - 04 - 11 - On
1235 - 24.9 - 05 - 18 - Off
1800 - 26.1 - 12 - 17 - On

Fuel Status (as of 18:29):

Diesel: Approximate Reading: 3/8

Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 22% (220 gallons = 832.8 L)

Gasoline:
Consumed Today: 0 gallons = 0 L
Quantity Remaining: 18 gallons = 68.1 L

Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 1 quart
ATV Quantity: 6 quarts
Blue Quantity: 0 quarts

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 350 gallons = 1324.9 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 100 cm from the base
Water Meter Reading: 6378.9 gallons = 24146.7 L
Water Consumed: 46 gallons = 174.1 L
Grey Water Used: 26.2 gallons = 99.2 L
Flushes: 6
Showers: 0
Sponge Baths: 0

Notes/Comments: The internal water tank anomaly from yesterday was repeated this morning. The tank was filled to the 50 gallon line and after a few minutes we heard water flowing again and the level of water decreased to right below the level of the supply line in the tank. Also there is a puddle outside near where the supply line runs from the engineering area to the Hab. The running theory right now is that there is a leak in that line and that it causes a vacuum to be created in the line to the Hab, sucking water out of the internal water tank until the water level gets below the mouth of the supply line. We pulled up the supply line so the mouth is higher in the tank. We refilled the tank and the problem did not recur. We will have to investigate the puddle in the next few days. The grey water level is low. Will take 2 showers.

GreenHab:
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: 50% of plants are in excellent condition, the remaining are dying and need more attention. Instructions left by a previous crew require that plants should be sprayed with nicotine solution. However, nicotine spray is no where to be found.

Don pointed out that the aeration bucket for the grey water circulation system (bucket with rocks) is no longer there. It has possibly fallen into the grey water tank, and will need to be replaced. If the old bucket has fallen into the tank, it will also need to be retrieved.

Transportation:

Blue: Used - no
Oil Checked: no
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status:
Notes/Comments: Blue is in SLC and won't be back until crew 45's arrival.

Kawasaki ATV 1: Used - yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 2: Used - yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good

Kawasaki ATV 3: Used - yes
Oil Checked: yes
Fuel Consumed: 0 gallons = 0 L
Tire Status: good
Notes/Comments: Only used ATVs for familiarization. Checked tire pressure on all ATVs.

HVAC: Nothing further to report.

Mars Surface Suits: All suits used. Back pack #5 has one of the vent hoses partially blocked restricting flow of air. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Removed the extra copies of the installed printer for the webcam computer. Reviewed the status of the Direct-Way status, signal strength at 70.

Appliances: Nothing further to report.

Data Logger: No readings today.

Upgrade Work: Nothing further to report.
