EVA Reports
Crew 40 Reporting

EVA-19:
Sheryl Bishop, Tiziana Trabucchi & Cécile Sainte Marie Reporting

Objectives: To investigate the geology of the South West part of the Hab, up to Orthanc.

EVA Team:
Crew: Sheryl Bishop, Tiziana Trabucchi & Cécile
Hab Comm: Christyne Legault

Planned Route: Orthanc through the Southern part of Copernicus Highway

Timeline:
Ingress: 1045 MDT
Egress: 1425 MDT

New Waypoints Established:
  • Cliff wash
    Elevation: 1428m
    12 S 0515463
    UTM 4251021

  • Trees
    Elevation: 1367m
    12 S 0516946
    UTM 4247933
Narrative: We stopped at some point on Copernicus Highway to go closer to the cliffs of Sky Rim to check out a promising wash. We stayed there about one hour and found several interesting specimens.

As we had some time left, we decided to investigate Southward but this time through Schriaparelli Highway. The track was difficult to follow and as we saw trees not far away, we decided to head for this area. The place proved to be a runoff gulley where we found a multitude of shell fossils and one other interesting specimen.

Please see today's Geology report for more details.

EVA-20: Anne Pacros Reporting

EVA Team:
Anne Pacros, Natalie Cutler, Tiziana Trabucchi
Hab Comm: Christyne Legault

Planned Route: Snoshti canyon via Copernicus highway, then back to the Hab via Lowell highway.

Timeline:
Egress: 1530 MDT
Ingress: 1820 MDT

New Waypoints Established: none

Narrative: At the beginning of this EVA we retrieved the aeolien that we had installed yesterday outside the Hab for one of the student experiments (see pictures from May 10, 2005), and we installed a mini-solar panel in its place.

After this, we took the ATVs up the hab ridge then North towards Snoshti canyon. Then we noticed that we were very close to the part of Lith canyon we had visited yesterday ! We could not stay for a long time at this destination because we were expected back at the Hab before 6:30 pm, so we plan to go back there tomorrow. To go back to the Hab we were able to get onto Lowell highway.

Once arrived at the Hab, we were asked to run one more time the Operation Evacuation: Student experiment.
