Health & Safety Report
Sheryl Bishop Reporting
At approximately 1:15 pm, a crewmember began to complain of growing nausea and dizziness culminating with her lying down on the Hab floor. A request for a telemedicine consult was initiated at 1:29 (and repeated at 1:37 due to typo in address). Response ACK from MedOps at 1:38 with response from Tam by 1:43 pm.
Initially it was thought that the crewmember was suffering from dehydration due to the onset of symptoms immediately prior and after an EVA which included a brief intense exercise involving running around the HAB for a science project. The Mission Support physician asked for a number of diagnostic tests to be conducted by HSO. All were done and results reported back.
As the telemed conference proceeded, the crewmember began reporting symptoms of a migraine of which she has a history. All vital signs (BP, lying, sitting; HR) were within normal parameters given the ongoing intense vertigo and near syncope upon movement or attempts to rise. She was administered a tablet of Allegra D upon physician's orders and continuously encouraged to ingest fluids. A solution of 2 tsp sugar, .25 tsp salt and .25 cup water was created for her to sip. She began to recover, was able to eventually sit and then with assistance move into a bedroom to lie down.
Consult with the physician suggests that the diagnosis is most likely an interaction between the migraine and the temporary overheating and fatigue while on EVA. The crewmember took her own medication for the migraine and will be monitored throughout the afternoon and night. The Mission Support Physician was updated at 7:15 MDT and confirmed the proscription for continued bedrest and recovery overnight.
