Crew 40 Reporting

EVA-7
Tiziana Trabucchi & Cécile Sainte Marie Reporting

Objectives: Mainly geology objectives, meaning to look for Morrison formation and fossils, and looking for cliffs for testing the Cliff Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV).

EVA Team:
Crew: Tiziana Trabucchi and Cécile Sainte Marie
Hab Comm: Anne Pacros

Planned Route: South first to Bob's Rock Garden and further on Lowell Highway.

Timeline:
Don Suits: 1140 MDT
Enter Airlock: 1158 MDT
Egress: 1200 MDT
Checkpoint 1: Bob's Rock Garden – 1215-1300 MDT
Checkpoint 2: Mona Lisa Canyon – 1315-1340 MDT
Enter Airlock: 1358 MDT
Ingress: 1400 MDT
Enter Hab: 1420 MDT

New Waypoints Established: We received the GPS only in the afternoon.

Narrative: We first stopped at Bob's Rock Garden and climb to have a closer look at the rocks' composition. Then we came back to the ATVs to go further on Lowell Highway up to a tiny nice canyon (before a cattle grid) named Mona Lisa Canyon where we found possible cliffs for the CRV tests and a lot of bivalves fossils.

EVA-8
Sheryl Bishop Reporting

Objectives: Pressurized rover vehicle familiarization, GPS test, Scout for CRV test locations, Test CRV.

EVA Team:
Commander: Sheryl Bishop
Navigator: Natalie Cutler
Photographer: Christyne Legault
Crew: Christyne Legault, Natalie Cutler, Sheryl Bishop
Hab Comm: Anne Pacros

Planned Route: Follow road thru Bob's Rock Garden to small canyon on the left side of the road shortly before the cattleguard to the main road.

Timeline:
Egress to Engineering Hanger via pressurized tunnel - 15:00 MDT
Load Suit Backpacks/Helmets/CRV and equipmemt into PRV
Left Engineering Hanger: 15:30 MDT
Returned to Engineering Hanger: 16:30
Enter Habitat via pressurized tunnel: 16:45 MDT

Waypoints Established: Set waypoints at Bob's Rock Garden [elev:1386; 12s 0518394; UTH: 4249216], and a small canyon we have tentatively named Mona Lisa Canyon [elev: 1327; 12 S 0520324; UTH:4247310] and at the hab [Elev: 1062m; 12s 0518233; UTH: 4250724] on the borrowed GPS unit. We are unclear as to whether these are new or not.

Narrative: The resupply module delivered a number of generator parts and a borrowed GPS for the team. It was determined that a Pressurized Rover Vehicle EVA would provide needed familiarization with the PRV, an opportunity to test the GPS and scout for potential locations for further testing of the CRV over various grades of the terrain. Tested new arrived borrowed GPS and Scouted locations for various tests of CRV tomorrow on our extended duration EVA scheduled for May 6. Due to impending weather, the team did not leave the PRV and returned to base without mishap having accomplished all primary objectives. Only the actual testing of the CRV was postponed for tomorrow.
