Log Book for May 5, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Anne Pacros Reporting

Weather: Very warm weather with scattered clouds, highs around 80F. Very windy and overcast at the end of the afternoon.

Crew Physical Status: The crewmember with a cold is feeling much better. Everybody else is fine.

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: Dry-run of the web conference with the Canadian Space Agency (scheduled on Tuesday, May 10). Morning EVA to Bob's rock garden and further South, found a lot of bivalve fossils! Afternoon EVA in the pressurized rover.

The Schedule: 9 am breakfast, EVAs between noon and 5 pm.

EVA: Noon to 2:00 pm, EVA-7 with 2 crewmembers southwards for geology exploration of Bob's rock garden and beyond. 3:30 to 4:30 pm, EVA-8 with 3 crewmembers in the pressurized rover to compare the MarsSkin suits and the MDRS suits in warm weather conditions.

Report Transmission Schedule: Commander check-in, Engineering report, Geology report, 2 EVA reports, daily log.

Maintenance: This morning we discovered a big water leak under the Hab in the pipe under the shower drain (that should be why the water we were using for showers was not refilling the Greenhab !). We fixed it so most of the water now goes to the Greenhab, but there is still some water dripping. Don came in the afternoon to work on the Casper generator, so we are now running on the backup generator (see engineering report) and in low-power mode.

Inventory: Shannon Rupert's GPS arrived today, thanks Shannon!

Plans for Tomorrow: Long distance EVA for all of us with the blue truck to avoid interaction with media personnel who is supposed to come to the Hab during the day. The plan is to go to the Factory Butte area via Highway 24 then right onto a graded road.

Miscellaneous: nothing to be reported.

Support Requested: What is the procedure to lock the Hab when we leave for our day-long EVA tomorrow? What about switching off the power, can we still leave at least the fridge and the main hab computer powered?
