Crew 40 Reporting

EVA-5
Christyne Legault Reporting

Objectives: Collect geology samples and looking for nice cliffs for the Cliff Reconnaissance vehicle (CRV)

EVA Team:
Commander: Christyne Legault
Crew: Tiziana Trabucchi and Cécile Ste-Marie
Hab Comm: Sheryl Bishop

Planned Route: South East 115°

Timeline:
Don Suits: 1015 MST
Enter Airlock: 1245 MST
Egress: 1247 MST
Enter Hab: 1248 MST

New Waypoints Established: N/A

Narrative: We went to the Candor Chasma. We collected some rocks samples to analyse and took a lot of nice pictures of the surrounding terrain. A rope on the ATV broke and smashed the face plate of the helmet of one of the crew members. The debris caused a little scratch on the face of that crew member. Good thing we wear sun glasses all the time!

EVA-6
Anne Pacros & Natalie Cutler Reporting

Objectives: CRV test

EVA Team:
Commander: Anne Pacros
Crew: Natalie Cutler
Hab Comm: Sheryl Bishop

Planned Route: Candor Chasma via Cactus road

Timeline:
Don Suits: 1400 MST
Enter Airlock: 1415 MST
Egress: 1417 MST
Ingress: 1645 MST
Enter Hab: 1647 MST

New Waypoints Established: N/A

Narrative: The CRV was installed on the back of one of the ATVs. We set off to Candor Chasma and when we arrived there we noticed that some parts of the CRV had come off. We were pretty sure they had fallen on the road somewhere but we were not sure how far back… And we were not sure we would be able to fix it with the spacesuit gloves on. Since a storm was coming, it was decided to do just a "reconnaissance" spacewalk around Candor Chasma, to check for "good" cliffs to test the CRV on, and to come back with the CRV on another occasion. After having done that, we went back a short distance and we were able to recover the missing CRV parts. Finally we headed back to the Hab without a problem. The CRV will be fixed tomorrow before we take it on another test, and a new SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) will be designed for transportation of the CRV.
