Geology Report
Tiziana Trabucchi & Cécile Sainte Marie Reporting

We went on EVA to make observations about the area to south east (A. 115). Originally we planned to arrive at the first hill that was visible from the habitat, but during the walk we collected some samples of different coloured sediments. We saw a ripple, an earth-pillar rock, and a few rocks with a lot of holes. We gathered four fine-grained samples of sediment, of different colours: light-brown, very light-brown, yellowish orange and white-pinkish. The colors are caused by a different proportion of iron hydroxide and oxide (limonite and ematite). We believe that the rocks with multiple holes are caused by bio-erosion, i.e., the holes had been made from burrowing organisms that perforated the rock.
