James Waldie Reporting

It took a lot of the morning to plan today's EVAs. We would approach the Coal Mine ruins from both sides in a textbook pincer manuevre. EVA 13 (Kurt and James) would come in from the west along Skyline Rim, passing by Factory

Butte and travelling in the pressurized rover wearing the MarsSkins. EVA 14 (Georg and Mat) would take the Hubble Highway on the ATVs and push up the Coal Mine

Wash from the east. Along the way, the wash track would be explored, the MarsSkins trialed (this time with rover operations) and Kurt would be able to explore the coal and wash formations. EVA 13 arrived first and began to explore the area. EVA 14 was soon in radio contact, and both teams successfully converged about 1km down the wash. It was quite an experience to come across other astronauts in such a place! Handshakes and smiles all round. From there, the mission did not go to plan. While Kurt enjoyed the geology, no coal mine ruins were found before a MarsSkin ventilation system went into reserve mode, forcing a return to the rover of EVA 13. EVA 14 was also forced to return to the hab due to time constraints. Back at the Hab, ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) day was celebrated with some didgeridoo playing, and Ricardo showed he can play the 'cardboard tube' better than I can. Maybe the Portugese did discover Australia before the English...
