EVA Reports
Ricardo Patrício & Rémon Annes Reporting

EVA-5
Ricardo Patrício Reporting

Kurt and Ricardo out on a geology expedition. 10.30 to 12.00. We went South all the way down on Radio Ridge Road looking for concretions. Made 3 stops on the way back and eventually found some concretions, only to realize weŽd lost a camera! The camera was fortunately recovered.

Afterwards we headed north trying to follow the Schiaparelli Highway but we ended up east of it. We explored this road until we reached the end of the highland. Going downhill was possible but tremendously expensive on the terrain erosion so we returned and called it a day.

EVA-6
Rémon Annes Reporting

This EVA started at 16:00hrs and lasted untill around 20:00hrs. James, Rémon, Mathias and Georg drove the big Rover out to Pinto Hills, about three quarters of the way back towards Hanksville. Purpose of this EVA was to perform a second test with the CRV, this time down a higher and steeper cliff. The geological classification of the area is "Summerville formation", which consists of many layers of different types of rock.

James knew the area from his previous crew rotation and navigated us to a spot where we could climb to the top of the cliff side. Climbing up hill in a space suit while a fierce sun shone down on us was exhaustive to say the least. The steep, striped rock faces surrounding us seemed to be held together by roots. On closer look, the roots were actually thin flat layers of white rock.

The small modifications applied to the CRV after the first test proved to work well. We lowered the CRV from two cliffs. After that we explored the surroundings further on foot. The panoramic views we were treated to were awe inspiring.
