EVA-4 Report
Kurt Klaus Reporting
EVA-4 was conducted by Georg, Kurt and James. This EVA was a continuation of the geologic field survey and navigation test begun on 4-19. We collected some very nice evaporate samples during the EVA.
We are going to continue to use the trail map from crew 22 though the some of the trails are difficult to find because of unfamiliarity with the territory. We are navigating using the GPS waypoints and checking our traverse against the USGS base maps when we return.
We could not find the south end of Schriaparelli Highway but did locate the north end. We followed Sagan Street to the Copernicus Highway and then took the Highway north to Burgener Ridge, then east on the Brahe Highway. We ended the EVA by following the Lowell Highway home. James found an outstanding unidentified evaporate sample at 12S,515556mE,4253416mN.
This EVA team was treated to some beautiful scenery approximately 16km north – north west of the Hab. A further EVA is planned to traverse the Schriaparelli Highway and explore the region north of the Brahe Highway.
