Log Book for April 13, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Bill Clancy Reporting

Weather: partly sunny; low 3c (37.4F), high 22.2c (72F), breezy, something passing by

Crew Physical Status: healthy, busy

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: Morning planning meeting to work out details of Boudreaux scouting in area beyond Pooh's Corner; involved all subsystem teams—science, agents, robot, and communications. Attempted trial in afternoon (3 hrs) failed for several reasons, including recently introduced software change in robot. At evening briefing, Boudreaux reported as ready to go for astronaut EVAs; many good results from simulated rover EVA; plus group pleased with Brent & Abby's late afternoon EVA. Yesterday's "hero of the day," John Ossenfort, awarded Jeff Graham (Boudreaux engineer) the hero award for today (a Mobile Agents 2005 badge with a flashing light).

The Schedule: briefing 0910h, 1830h briefing.

EVA: none with astronauts.

Report Transmission Schedule: CDR Journal, RST reports late or tomorrow; EVA reports in process. (Note that many reports are being passed between the crew and RST for planning and after EVAs, which are too detailed for web posting.)

Maintenance: Problems with GreenHab, tank 4 nearly empty; pump was put there last week because tank 5 was nearly empty. Moved pump to tank 5, which raised level of TST and shut off motor correctly. Determined that web manual is not up-to-date and didn't have answer about power.

Found water in trench under MDRS, probably there a long time, but evidence of recent dripping.

Don reconnected the auto-feed of the diesel tank and said it's 1/3rd full; no explanation to why the generator shut off on this configuration yesterday. Don also refilled large water tank & took garbage.

Inventory: Sufficient for the stay.

Plans for Tomorrow: Fix robot software; plan astronaut EVA for beyond Pooh's Corner; decide at 1300h which to perform.

Miscellaneous: One day off in seven is not enough if you are working 14 hour days.

Support Requested: Full review of diesel generator mount, battery mount, big tank gauge, and refuel schedule. Advice on how to turn off pump in tank 5 that feeds TST and where to get water to refill tank 4 or 5.

Commander, MDRS Crew 38
