Log Book for April 5, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Bill Clancey Reporting

Weather: clear, mostly calm, low 2,.8c (37F), high 15.9c (60.6F), humidity 11%

Crew Physical Status: settling into the groove, adapted now to time zone and more energetic

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: Progress on the Mobile Agents system continues on all fronts: programming the robot arm to deploy the relay (by removing a pin); verifying network connectivity to all computers inside and outside the hab with Tropos relay from top of MDRS (seeing 10 db variance within 2 m shift in position); installing astronaut backpack upgrades (including new air system for helmet); language training test for astronauts; verifying and debugging voice recognition of commands and agent processing of voice commands (efficiency problem with backpack-B tracked to the UK/British recognizer for Abby); setup of EVA database (ScienceOrganizer) local server. Also handling logistics for visits next week from eight scientist colleagues and several reporters. Liam is preparing lamb stew for dinner.

The schedule was standard: 0900h full team briefing to review the day's plans and objectives and coordinate (held indoors because it was so cool); 1700h team lead meeting to assess the next day's plans (held outside because it was so warm); the support groups plan to work until dark and return to Hanksville after 1900h.

EVA: none

Report Transmission Schedule: CDR journal, GreenHab report

Maintenance: Filled the diesel generator just before 0900h and again at 1645h. Calculations indicate about 13 hours/tank. Hot water heater repaired by Don Foutz (wiring at junction box disconnected in loft). Refilled water tank in loft at 1000h (used approx. 45 gallons). Worked on Greenhab (see separate report). Don refilled external water supply and was to check propane level. The batteries are now fully charged and not being used.

Inventory: finally, some room in the refrigerator

Plans for Tomorrow: Complete deferred items, most pressing is integration of ERA/RDR with Brahms (agent system), including specifying the programmed reconnaissance (photography and wireless network mapping) as a plan in the agent system; aiming for a test run in the afternoon. Working towards Friday astronaut-robotic EVA: Fit test for astronaut backpacks; audio levels test of voice recognition; baseline testing of biosensor nominal thresholds.

Miscellaneous: Weather is ideal for our needs, as we hoped in moving our rotation three weeks earlier than last year.

Support Requested: GreenHab issues are not yet resolved; expect further messages.
