Log Book for April 4, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Bill Clancey Reporting
Weather: partly cloudy, persistent winds from the west, storms on all horizons, low 13.1c (55.6F), high 20.3c (68.5F)
Crew Physical Status: busy and productive, Frank Schubert plans to arrive Tuesday afternoon.
Brief Narrative of Today’s Results: For the commander, this was a day of non-stop troubleshooting -- power, toilet, hot water, interleaved with dinner preparation, bread making, and photo processing. The Mobile Agents group has been productive on all fronts: robots, network, voice commanding, and agents. Installation of sensors and components on the second robot (Thibodeaux) is almost complete. Tropos (wireless network) integration almost complete; differential GPS checks out; partial setup of ATV to be used for navigation and robot simulation. Satellite (TAZ) internet service established (1700 kbs up and down).
After a morning briefing that completed at 1000h, people worked until a 1700h team lead meeting; the support groups plan to return to Hanksville at 1900h.
EVA: none
Report Transmission Schedule: CDR journal, GreenHab report
Maintenance: Filled the diesel generator at 0800h and again at 1615h. Calculations indicate about 9.42 hours/tank. Hot water heater not working; too busy with other things to attend to this. Refilled water tank in loft at 1100h. Worked on Greehab several times (see separate report)—currently not receiving gray water in tank 1.
The batteries are now fully charged, reading COMP VDC 26.7 and only drawing 3 amps from the generator (readout indicates FLOAT instead of BULK). Hab draw appears to be constant around 14 amps.
Inventory: eating well
Plans for Tomorrow: continued setup in the morning, including testing the original robot, Boudreaux. Fit test for astronaut backpacks; audio test of voice recognition; setup of EVA database (ScienceOrganizer) local server; further testing of touch screen computer to be used for ATV navigation system; start working on Boudreaux's arm for automated sampling. Possible robotic relay deployment and scouting in the afternoon. Training astronauts on new vocabulary for voice commanding; baseline testing of biosensor nominal thresholds.
Miscellaneous: new breadmaker works well
Support Requested: The water tank outside is down to about 8 inches on the uphill side of the trailer; a note has been sent to Don Foutz.
