Narrative: As we suited up, Kyle finished preparing the APRS repeater and testing it. Once we left the airlock we proceeded to load all our gear on the ATVs. Jan checked tire pressure and inflated them as necessary, while I refueled the two ATVs.
From the Hab we headed North in search of the small trail that leads to the top of Radio Ridge. Along the way Jan got his ATV stuck in a small trench. This was not a big deal as the two of us were able to pull it free.
Once at the top of Radio Ridge, we set up the APRS on the highest spot we could find that was also easily accessible with the ATVs. From there, Jan lead us west to Clara's Corner where we turned south. We stayed on this path until it ended at the main highway, only stopping a couple of times to survey waypoints.
Once reaching the road, we traveled down into a canyon where an old washed out road once went. Next we proceeded west parallel to the highway to the original head of the dirt path we had taken. From there we headed back to retrieve the APRS repeater and survey a little of the road on top of Radio Ridge overlooking MDRS. Then we were ready to head down the hill to MDRS. We noticed that the majority of the wind at the hab is blocked by Radio Ridge. The winds atop of Radio Ridge were strong enough to cause the ATVs to want to drift to the side, not to mention it made it feel very cold. However, a nice warm lunch back at the Hab always helps to warm us up.
