Log Book for March 30, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Jan Osburg Reporting

EVA: one long-range EVA to the vast plain between the Hab and Skyline Rim, to test APRS with the ground-based repeater and to survey the dirt roads there

Crew Physical Status: fine

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: We could not launch the balloon due to very high winds. However, we continued our research program with the ground-based repeater. We got great results - APRS coverage far beyond what we expected. The EVA crew also discovered an interesting canyon. Apart from that, most crewmembers had to spend most of the day doing classwork.

Plans for Tomorrow: helping Don/Paul install the new generator, and hoping for the #$*!%@& wind to die down so we can launch the balloon for the robot climber testing

Report Transmission Schedule: as usual

Maintenance: The delivery of the new generator was postponed to tomorrow morning, but we already prepped the installation site by removing the broken-down old diesel generator.

Inventory: the fridge is getting emptier, but we have enough supplies to last us until Sunday morning

Miscellaneous: Time flies when you are having fun!

Support Requested: apart from the new generator, we need a refill for the external water tank (is empty; 50 gallons left in the inside tank), and more oil for the current generator (SAE30; one quart left) tomorrow morning

More to follow.
