Log Book for March 27, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Jan Osburg Reporting

EVA: We had one long-range pedestrian EVA to resurvey "Phobos Peak" about 1.5 km southeast of the hab. Halfway up the mountain we discovered Easter-Island-like artifacts (see EVA report and pix) in a location that no robotic explorer could have possibly reached.

Crew Physical Status: great but a bit tired (especially the EVA crew)

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: The day started with a brief Easter service for those wishing to attend. Official wake-up time was 0900h. After a leisurely breakfast, half of the crew went on a strenuous EVA while the other half dealt with the no less challenging task of getting the balloon and climber robot ready for launch tomorrow. Both efforts succeeded. Late lunch consisted of sandwiches and chips, in order to leave space for tonight's Easter feast - a delicious roast was acquired for that purpose in Salt Lake City and is currently roasting. Part of the crew took the afternoon off from mission-related activities since they have the deadline for their senior design project approaching, and what better place to design spacecraft than on simulated Mars!

Plans for Tomorrow: launch the balloon for the first time, and host WXIA Atlanta cameraman Stephen Boissy.

Report Transmission Schedule: hopefully around 2000h MST today

Maintenance: Oil changes and refueling were done on schedule. The GreenHab is still running nominally. Go GreenHab!

Inventory: Turns out we'll likely eat most of the food left at the hab (students are always hungry, and I am a known eater) so Crew 38 be prepared.

Miscellaneous: halftime!

Support Requested: we will be down to 11 gallons of gas tonight after refueling the ATVs yesterday. We need new gas with the generator delivery tomorrow, for the ATVs and as backup in case the new generator doesn't work out and we'll have to hook up the current generator again. The big outside water tank is at 40% so we will need new water in a couple of days.

More to follow.
