Log Book for March 24, 2005
Engineering Report
Douglas Martin & Rebecca Fink Reporting

Gasoline Generator:
Filled at 8:00 MST, took 4.5 gal
Filled at 16:00 MST, took 4 gal.
Oil changed at 16:00 MST

Propane Tank Level: At 18:00 MST: 62% full

Water:
Outside potable water tank: full
Inside Tank Reading = 15 gallons
Water meter reading: 291.e gallons

GreenHab: Nothing new to report.

Grey-Water Level: They grey-water tank has a leak where it connects to the GreenHab. Throughout the few days we have been here the grey-water leak has worsened. We believe this may be linked to the reason why tank 5 and the TST tank are low in the GreenHab. The grey-water tank is over full. After taking into account the failure timeline and the potentially involved components, we have come up with a probable cause: At this point we believe that the pump which transfers the water from the grey-water holding tank to the GreenHab is a 110v AC line that ran off the GreenHab circuit. When the Engineering Task Force was here earlier this week they connected the power supply line that ran to the GreenHab to the new 12v battery bank. Therefore, it could be that the 110v pump in the grey-water holding tank is now trying to run on 12v. Unless we find a way to confirm the root cause of the problem (and subsequently fix it), our TST water will run out and we will approach the point were we will not be able to flush the toilet with processed gray water.

HVAC: Nothing done.

Transportation: The power socket on ATV #1 is not functioning. The idle was adjusted on ATV #3 so that it could be put into gear without grinding.

Mars-Suits: Nothing new to report.

Computers & Network: Nothing new to report.

Data Logger: Nothing new to report.

Engineering Upgrades/Refit: All swinging doors in the Hab, except for the shower door (tomorrow's project), were checked and fixed as needed to make them close and latch properly.

The inside aft air-lock door was remounted so that it closes fully. The south upstairs window was caulked and sealed to keep the wind out. With the high winds the last couple of days there was a noticeable draft coming from the window.
