Log Book for March 14, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Shannon Rupert Reporting
Today was the third day at MDRS for the Phase II crew.
EVA: We all went on an out of sim EVA along Hab Ridge. The geologists explained their research and the historical geology of the area to the rest of the crew and it was a terrific experience for all of us. We explored concretion, desert varnish and endolith sites.
Crew Physical Status: The crew is in good spirits and overall good health. Our one sick crewmember is much improved and the two crewmembers enroute to MDRS arrived safely this morning.
Brief Narrative of Mission Results: We finished the trench. See the photos. We marked it with a layer of mudstone. We are awesome.
Plans for Tomorrow: We will go into sim in the morning. We will conduct an EVA to ground truth a Red Flyer image.
Report Transmission Schedule: All reports will be in by 10pm MST. Reports to expect tonight:
- Commander's Check-in
- Commander's Log
- Engineering Report
- Journalist's Report
- Geology Report
Photos will be uploaded as normal. We will also send Kelly's bio and photos for Kelly and Lindsay.
Maintenance: We still need to get the ATVs running. We completed an assessment of the EVA suits and cleaned the EVA prep room. Generator still running very well.
Inventory: We received more oil and gas.
Miscellaneous: I find it interesting that after the refit, it is warmer on the lower deck than the upper deck. And bless whoever put the heater vent in the bathroom!
Support Requested: Please sign Lindsay, our Comms Officer, to the MS list.
We found the battery charger, but it has been altered and is no longer functional. We have plans to attempt to charge the batteries but we understand that they need replacing. The battery connectors are extremely corroded and they have not been maintained.
