Log Book for March 7, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Mike Turner Reporting
EVA Information: There are two EVA's to report today. The first was to familiarize the engineers on the crew with the geology of the area. The second was to flight test the Red Flyer, and determine its capabilities. There were two flight tests, and unfortunately during this test. Randy lost control of the plane and it crashed. Fortunately, it is repairable, and the major structures of the plane were not damaged severly. More will details about the crash will elaborated on in the science/EVA report. No camera data from the plane was recorded.
Crew Physical Status: The crew is fine, but stressed because of the plane crash. Randy, Mike, Kari, and Mark are working to get it back to flight. It was sort of a blow to the engineers of the crew as they've spent a great deal of time planning this mission, so among them, the spirits are quite low (especially that of the commander). Kari has fallen slightly ill with what appears to be a cold, but is well enough work normally with the crew.
Plans for Tommorrow: Stacy plans to train the crew on the suits, the ATV's, & the EVA procedures. Any needed repairs will be performed tonight and/or tommorrow. If the plane is ready the crew will fly in sim if the flying conditions are reasonable.
Report Transmission Schedule: All reports except engineering will be in by 10PM. The current generator is scheduled to be refilled at 12AM, and thus oil & gas readings will need to wait until then.
Maintennace: One of the ATV's is down due to a flat tire, and the compressor needed to refill it is not able to be found. Other than the plane and the ATV, all other equipment in the hab is working perfectly.
Inventory: Food supplies are stocked well, other vital supplies will be reported in the engineering report.
Ad Astra!
