EVA-11 Report
Adam Rehnberg Reporting

After a long day of housekeeping and GreenHab tinkering, we decided to take advantage of the remaining sunlight and head out on a motorized evening EVA. I was appointed EVA Commander and the three of us left the airlock at about 17:00. As Commander Hugh had never been out of the HAB's valley by more than 2 kms and wished to do some exploring up north, we proceeded northward on the main dirt road for about 4 km, primarily trying to push for distance and cover as much ground as possible in the remaining hour of daylight.

After going north for about 30 minutes, the commander asked which would make a better place for photographs, down in Lith Canyon or further up on Brahe Highway. We decided that we would have to turn around and head back to Brahe Highway as our present location was not particularly scenic. My GPS receiver died on me from lack of battery power (big mistake), but Cmdr Gregory had his GPS unit set up as a homing compass to the HAB which enabled us to keep track of our position and distance from home. He knew from planning previous EVA's the distance from Brahe Highway Junction to the HAB so he guided us back to the turnoff and we proceeded at a brisk pace up the road to the west, leading us up to some higher ground and better photo opportunities.

We took some pictures with the beautiful Martian sunset as a backdrop and then swung around for an uneventful drive home. As we returned to the HAB, the sun was just dropping beneath the horizon. With the exception of my GPS battery slipup, this EVA went smoothly and allowed us to do some good exploration.
