Commander's Check-In
Gus Frederick Reporting
Crew Status: We're a bit tired, but still in high spirits! We had our first Movie Night last evening; we watched "The Dish."
Daily Recap: Today we had another visitor, this time Doug Pizac from the AP out of Salt Lake City. Gregorio and I had already planned an EVA, so we had him follow us. We took the Pressurized Rover North to where it crosses Tank Wash, and proceeded on foot East, with Doug and our "autonomous photo droid" Steve Featherstone and Doug following snapping pictures all the way. We were investigating some Mars analog sites for Gregorio's project, and I was also looking for some unique desert varnish sites for Dr. Penny Boston's research. Both of these objectives were successful.
Minor objectives included another test of the Dewey Cooling Vest, which I wore this time, with different sensor placement. I also made a sun shield for the underwater digital camera case in an attempt to improve viewing with the helmet. The Vest did indeed seem to help with the cooling. I will need to do another EVA without it using the same sensor arrangement. The camera trick was not as successful. Still pretty hard to view with the helmet in the sun.
Tomorrow's Plan: More pedestrian EVAs due to our lack of ATVs, and work in the GreenHab, relocating the inside PAR sensor. I also have a request from the RST to culture some GreenHab water, which I plan to start as well.
Daily Reports: The following reports should be in soon.
- Commander's Check In (this report) -- Gus Frederick
- Journalist Report -- Steve Featherstone
- GreenHab Report -- Kathleen Johnson
- Engineering Report -- G. Drayer & A. Rzeszutko
