Log Book for April 12, 2004
Engineering Report
Gregorio Drayer & Alyssa Rzeszutko Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

China Special:
Voltage: 220 V
Hobbs meter Reading: N/A
Turned off at 10:00 for the lack of air filtration. Taken away by Don for repair.

Lil’ Genny: This generator, supposed to serve as a backup power source did not start apparently due to a failure in the ignition system.

Lil’ Bro: Don brought a borrowed gasoline generator from his brother in law, which powered the hab from 16:00 to 23:30, when it stopped working. The reason was a failure of the electrical system that we did not want to go into because it was not Don’s or our generator.

Fuel Status:

Diesel:
  • Quantity: 82 gallons (US liquid) = 310.4 L remaining (L=liters)
  • Consumed: 2 gallons = 7.6 L

    Propane Tank:
  • Reading: 70% (175 gal / 250 gal) = (662.4 L / 946.4 L)
  • Consumed: 0 gallons

    Gasoline:
  • Quantity: 22.5 gal = 85.2 L
  • Consumed: 7.5 gal = 28.4 L
  • Observation: Yesterday’s reading was incorrect. 3 extra canisters were found, therefore we began the day with 30 gal instead of 15 gal.

    Oil:
  • Quantity remaining: 8.5 quarts = 8.0 L
  • Note: changed oil on Don’s bother-in-law’s spare generator (Lil’ Bro).

    Water:

Reading: Outside potable water tank level: 59 cm from the base
    Consumed: 16 gal = 61.2 L in last 24 hours
Estimated Grey Water Used: 12.8 gal = 48.45 L in last 24 hours (assumed 80%)

    Time: 7:00
    Inside Tank: 34 gal = 128.7 L
    (Previous reading at 04/11/04: 34 gal = 128.7 L)

    Time: 21:37
    Inside Tank: 18 gal = 68.1 L

    Time: 21:50
    Inside Tank: 55 gal = 208.2 L

    Time: 23:00
    Inside Tank: 55 gal = 208.2 L

    HVAC: Nothing to report.

    Transport: Nothing new to report.

Mars-Suits: Nothing to report. The remainder of the crew will be trained on proper suit usage tomorrow morning before simulation begins Tuesday, April 13, 2004.
