Log Book for April 1, 2004
Engineering Report
James Russell & Peter Collins Reporting
Generator/Electricity:
China Special:
Voltage: 220
Hobbs meter reading: 631.1
We have been refueling China Special while it is still running.
Location: The "China Special" appears to be doing well in its new location. The addition of a board to its East side and angling the generator slightly further reduced the noise.
Oil:
Quantity remaining: 13.5 quarts
1 quart used today for refilling China Special
Lil Genny: "Lil Genny" was tested today and ran well when started with an ATV battery.
The initial battery read 11.9VDC under no load, and ~0 VDC under load of the ignition switch. After conferring with Wil, we believe that the battery is dead. During this testing, we removed the leads from the charging system and the voltage was 7 VDC across the leads.
Fuel Status:
Diesel:
- Quantity: 25 gallons remaining
- Consumed: 6.5 gallons
Note: we created procedures for refueling diesel cans and moving the
pump to a new drum. These will be uploaded into our crew directory.
Propane Tank:
- Reading: 75% (187.5 gal)
- Consumed: 0 gallons
Gasoline:
- Quantity: 42.5 gallons
- Consumed: 0 gallons
Water:
Reading: Outside potable water tank level: 60 cm from the base
Consumed: 33 gallons in last 24 hours
Estimated Grey Water Used: 27 gallons in last 24 hours (assumed 80%)
Time: 09:15
Inside Tank: 17 gallons
(Previous reading at 3/31/04 19:25, 29 gallons. 22 gallons at 23:15)
Time: 09:34
Inside Tank: 51 gallons (refilled)
Time: 20:05
Inside Tank: 30 gallons
HVAC: Nothing to report.
Transport: Nothing new to report.
Mars-Suits: Radios have been set to vox for EVAs, making using them a lot easier. Tomorrow we will be looking at using foam padding to raise the helmets slightly as they can sit too low.
Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Nothing new to report
