Log Book for March 20, 2004
Commander's Check-In
Reece Lumsden Reporting

Crew Status: The crew are highly motivated and in high spirits now that we have finished phase two and are having a social activity this evening.

Daily Recap: Today we entered the final day of our three days in full simulation conditions. Today we had no issues with power, which was a relief. Instead the main issue was the environmental conditions, namely the heat. Although we had planned for two EVAs today, the temperature soared to around 105 degrees farenheit (40 degrees Celsius) and I thought that it was far too hot for crew members to go out in full suits for two or three hours at a time. EVAs that were planned for today were:

EVA 1: Susmita and Heather to undertake an EVA to test the dynamics of an all female EVA, as well as travel to various sites to collect water samples and analyse them.

EVA 2: Edwin and one other crew member. This EVA would test the deployability of a boom and pulley system on the back of the ATVs to deploy Edwin's prototype rover.

As the temperature prevented the EVAs from taking place, some of the crew continued the ongoing cleanup of the hab. This involved sweeping out the bottom section of the hab, maintaining the bathroom by putting up a towel rack and shower curtain as well as fixing one of the drawers on the bathroom cabinet.

After the conclusion of the cleanup session, the crew sat down to dinner and a social night to denote the completion of phase 2 of the simulation.

Tomorrow's Plan: Crew will pull back to part simulation conditions tomorrow and look at their individual projects. Other tasks to be looked at will include: continuation of the hab cleanup, design schematic for the hooking up of three solar power cells to the communications relay station and futher design for the prototype pulley and boom system on the back of the ATVs for the purpose of deploying Edwin's prototype rover.

Daily Reports: The standard reports should be in on time tonight around 2230.
