Executive Officer's Report
Richard Humphreys Reporting

Crew 26 first day on Mars has been a gentle affair. Every member was tired on our late arrival last night, most had had a long journey whilst others had commitments which had deprived them of sleep, and so having been introduced to the only two crew members of Crew 25 remaining at the site the briefings were delayed until the morning. Despite the lack of sleep by 07.30 hours everyone was up. Dennis Creamer and Daniel Hegeman then briefed the crew on ATV operation, suit wearing, generator maintenance and GreenHab fans. On the final departure of Crew 25 the crew began to clean up the hab and Commander Reece Lamsden gave the crew personal time to stow their effects and become accustomed to the surroundings. Following lunch he then briefed the crew and handed out crew assignments. They were as follows:
  • Executive Officer: Richard Humphreys.
  • Engineer: Susmita Mohanty
  • 2nd Engineer: Edwin Loosveldt
  • Health and Safety Officer: Heather Hava
  • GreenHab maintenance: Richard Humphreys / Heather Hava
  • EVA Commander: Jamon Neilson
  • Communications Officer: Edwin Loosveldt
The proposed science experiments were discussed and a brief plan of the week outlined. While the main part of Jaman's experiment is conducted in the Bio lab he also has further vegetable seeds which he hopes to plant in the GreenHab. It has been proposed that one of our EVA's be dedicated to finding martian soil to return to the GreenHab to plant these seeds and monitor their progress. Susmita's experiment consists of several assessments inside the hab environment and so no EVA's need to be planned for that. Edwin has many experiments planned including a constructed land vehicle which he hopes to put through its paces on Martian soil. These may need several EVA's to iron out problems and modify the design to achieve the best results. Heather's experiment is also an inside based activity where she hopes to modify a lego constructed explorer, so again no EVA has to be arranged around that. These experiments will be outlined in more detail in the relevant officers reports and the EVA Commander's reports.

The rest of the day was taken up by general maintenance duties, including Heather and Jamon going to get fresh produce, Reece and Richard servicing the Quad bikes, Susmita and Edwin completing the general maintenance inside the hab, Reece, Richard and Edwin familiarizing themselves with the Quad bikes and obtaining photographs of the surrounding area, and the first attempts at engineering and GreenHab measurements. Don also attended at the Hab where the Quad bike faults were explained and the previous crews rubbish was taken away. We had planned to go into full Sim tomorrow morning however it appears as if Jamon and Heather will need to go again to the nearest town for supplies and so a partial sim will be attempted until this chore is completed.
