Human Factors Report
Ryan Kobrick Reporting

Crew 25 completed three human factors experiments designed by members of the RST to look at group function in an isolated environment. Included here is a brief summary of each of these experiments. The collected data were sent to the RST researchers and will be analysed along with data from other crews.

Social/Pysch Questionnaire During our rotation the crew had to write a "Personal and Group Functioning Survey" every few days for a complete set of six each. The test asked questions in three areas of "Organisational Structure", "Attitudes and Perceptions about the Mission", and "Personal Functioning and Demographic Information".

Personality Questionnaire Every crewmember was required to fill out a personality assessment questionnaire. The kind of information collected by this questionnaire includes: Global personality profile; Achievement motivation profile; Task versus interpersonal orientation; and Two key dimensions commonly found in Type A personalities.

CogState CogState is a scientifically validated measure of cognitive performance. The crew was required to take this computer-based test six times during the rotation and corresponding to when the personality questionnaires were taken. Results from this test are divided into three categories: Response Speed; Response Accuracy; and Response Consistency. These results are submitted via the Internet to CogState in Australia.

Issues Encountered:
  • Since CogState was loaded only on my computer (in order to send full package of results) not everyone could use the test right when they wrote the questionnaire since I spent a lot of time writing reports. This could be changed in future crews with using a common Hab computer.
  • The test taken could not be taken at a set interval because there were some days where crewmembers were working until going to sleep and did not have time to perform the tests.
  • Due to poor scheduling on my part, the tests were taken primary near the middle of the rotation. This is also because I am leaving on Thursday morning.
