Log Book for March 4, 2004
General Engineering Report
Jason Schwier Reporting
Generators:
Lil Genny:
Time 2245: Started with minor difficulty, most likely due to the cold. Oil full. Gas 1/2 tank.
Time 0610: Started with no difficulty. Oil full. Gas 1/2 tank.
Time 1415: Started with no difficulty. Oil full. Gas 1/2 tank.
Time 2215: Lil Genny was started at 2245 last night. The Crew has been under low power operation for the entire day, in order to not tax the generator. Lil Genny is currently powering the Hab.
Generac:
Time 2250: The Generac was deactivated and "Lil Genny" used to power the Hab.
Time 1410: Attempt made to restart the Generac. Startup only results in clicks. The Generac can no longer run, believed to be due to lack of fuel.
Tanks:
Time: 0858
Propane 1 North: < 5%
Propane 2 South: 7%
Closest Tank to Hab: 60%
The north and south propane tanks will no longer be checked after today, as the Generac will no longer be removing propane from them.
Water:
Time: 0857
Inside: 31 gal
Outside High: > 90 cm
Outside Low: 82 cm
Shower Bucket: 2 buckets to toilet refill tank
Yesterday, the crew was informed that GreenHab water levels were very low. Due to the current power situation, water will still be used at higher levels than normal, but will be watched very closely to prevent overuse of electricity. We are aiming to use 5 to 6 gallons of water per person on average. Once GreenHab is operating normally, water usage will be reduced to standard levels of 4 gallons of water used per person on average.
ATVs:
#1 - Oil ok. Gas ¼ tank. Started ok.
#2 - Oil slightly low. Gas ½ tank. Started ok.
#3 - Oil slightly low. Gas ½ tank. Started ok.
The check belt lights are active on ATVs #2 and #3.
GreenHab:
Time: 1030
Humidity: 62%
Temperature: 88 F
Hab: Nothing to report for modifications or enhancements to the Hab.
Suits: The experimental headsets do not work with the communicators. Received signals can be heard through the headsets, but any voice transmission cannot be heard by another device. After investigation, the only explanation possible for the non-functionality is a solder joint. Further evaluation is necessary to find the true cause.
