Geology Report
Kyoichi Sasazawa Reporting

Excursion to Northern Area: We took an excursion from Hab to Northern terrain. It took about a half mile.

Geological Setting: The rock around MDRS exposes late Jurassic Morrison Formation. The rock nearest MDRS is brown color sedimentary rock. Gray hard rock overlaps them. White coarse sandstone overlaps fine conglomerate that mostly contains well-rounded silicious pebbles (about 0.5-1.5 cm). Both of them show well-bedded lamina. White coarse sandstone is composed of quartz, feldspar and colored grains (or colored minerals). Reddish fine sedimentary rock overlaps white coarse sandstone.

Feature: Some of rocks in this area contain jasper, agate or silicious block. We sampled some of them. Eroded rocks show unique shape like mesa or buttes. Eroded white coarse sandstone shows strange porous eroded shape.

Plan for Tomorrow: We will review MDRS geological cross section and make a route map and geological column.
