John Karafilis Reporting

We arrived safely at the Hab to a warm reception by Crew 22 at around 1900 hours Saturday evening.

John Burgener and his crew mates treated us to a great meal, then gave us the grand tour of the Hab and it's immediate surroundings -- albeit by flashlight since night had already fallen. After a brief but thorough training session that touched on all aspects of the Hab and equipment maintenance, we hit the rack with full stomachs and craniums just a bit after 2330 (can you say "information overload"?).

We bid Crew 22 farewell this morning at 0700, then got to work cleaning, inspecting, and familiarizing ourselves with our new home.

The crews that preceded us this year have done a wonderful job bringing most systems up to par, but there are still a few items that we will need to address during our rotation. These include the rear Hab door, the external water pump, and observatory computer.

We had one minor incident this evening with the main generator (please see Anne's report) that was quickly remedied by Don Foutz, and we will be taking one of the ATVs out of service for a few days until we can get a replacement part for the on/off switch. Other than that, we are looking forward to going into full sim as early as tomorrow afternoon if conditions are favorable. Our food stock is in great shape, and everyone is in great spirits.

On a slightly more somber note, we would like to send our best wishes and prayers to the family members and friends of the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia on this, the one year anniversary of the disaster. But we will not mourn for the crew -- they deserve better.

Instead, we will honor their memory by pressing forward in our ever continuing search for knowledge and discovery.
