GreenHab Report
Debi-Lee Wilkinson Reporting
Despite long power interruptions I was able to get some GreenHab science done. The greenhouse itself was at a fine 80 degrees with full sun. I transplanted some of the vegetable preplants to grow to maturity. I also took enough photos to begin a planting guide for the inexperienced.
Crew 7's plants were a bit overplanted and overgrown both. When plants do not get enough sunlight they get long and stringy. These types of plants, broccoli, Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts are light sensitive in their early stage. The photo shows the broccoli transferred to a 4" pot. Filling the pot with soil so that only the green part shows usually will not be sufficient for the plants to recover. I did this to write the planting guide.
Cabbage was transplanted to a large diameter plot. I took a 1.5" square of dirt with a long row of multiple cabbage plants. I pulled most of them and left several plants intact because I don't know which ones will survive the transfer. Before the end of our rotation, I will pull all but one. One of the plants was the growing nice and hopefully it will survive and be the one left. One pot can only support one plant especially since we are using fresh water only, not the recycled water at this time. It is unknown at this time if we will use the living machine water when water quality improves.
