Biology Report
Tara M. Ruttley Reporting

Greenhab/living machine maintenance: The system is working nominally, though we still haven't completely identified the source of the leak from the south and north side of the greenhab. The water is still trickling through our trenches to the leach field, seemingly at a steady pace, although today it appeared that the trenches were more full than usual. The tank levels are normal, and also there was no whining sound from the pumps today when I checked them.

Today I installed one space blanket on one of the two North walls in the Greenhab. I placed the blanket as high as I could safely reach with a ladder, (which covered most of the wall, but left some of the upper half exposed), but I could not place the space blanket on the second North wall. This is because Tank 1 and its stands and components are in the way of safely putting up a ladder to hang the blanket. The remaining three space blankets are on the shelf inside the Greenhab.

I also disinfected the shelving, tools, and handles today in the Greenhab with a bleach/water solution, and rearranged some of the items that are being stored there to a safer place that is out of the way. Finally, I labeled all of the thermometers, gages, and instruments used in the daily tasks and maintenance of the Greenhab. Yesterday and today, Gary Fisheris left detailed messages filled with things to do in the Greenhab while we're here. However, Kevin left this morning and didn't get the email, and I'm leaving in the morning, so I won't have time to cover his requests. I have, however, copied his emails and the user's guide to a folder on the main computer called "GreenHab." I will be sure that Crew 13 knows it's there. They can work with Gary on the list.

The halo light was once again placed on timer from 4am-7am and 6pm-9pm, per Gary's request and Mission Support's agreement. I did notice though, that when I went to set the timer, it had been set in the PM when it should have been in the AM, and vice versa. I can't say if the last Crew noticed this problem, but I corrected it, and the lights have been going on accordingly. Kevin put the power for the Greenhab permanently back on full hab power; no solar power.

Lastly, Gary Fisher responded to the new Greenhab manual I published on the web (with Katie Harris). He requested that I make some changes, which I have done, and here we are re-submitting intel. I'm hoping it gets permanently posted on the main crew dispatch page, along with the HSO guide, Hab Manual, etc.

Overall, this crew tried to do the right things for the Greenhab, and though the system worked nominally most of the time, Crew 13 may find that they have their hands full with the dead plants (except for those in the control bucket), yet unidentified leak on the north and south ends, and the new list of requests from Gary Fisheris to be performed. I'll do my best to cover it with them in tomorrow morning's training.

Medical Operations: I have submitted my final report to the flight surgeon, and I plan to train Crew 13 tomorrow morning on the safety inspections and medical duties here at the MDRS.
